Stefan Tebbenhoff (1978) is a Dutch collage artist with a background in landscape design. In a digitally dominated world, his approach remains stricktly analogue; using only found imagery, scissors, scalpel, pencil and glue. His work documents a warped reality made believable through use of photographic images. The visual elements are all meticulously cut, adding a sense of realism to the surreal.

Most of his materials are gathered from thrift stores and flea markets. They often date back to the 1980s and earlier, when printing wasn’t as glossy. This gives the work a nostalgic and retro feel. Adding to this sense of nostalgia are vintage wooden frames that are repurposed and carefully cut to size. They provide an impression that the images used to hang on a wall, somewhere in the past mid century. Perhaps as remainders of a time that never really existed.
